A container can simplify factory assembly, but it does not remove site interfaces. The buyer still needs a verified route from delivery vehicle to foundation, connections for every water stream and utility, safe access for operation and membrane replacement, and an agreed commissioning boundary. Confirm these items on drawings before manufacture and shipment.
1. Prove the container can reach and fit the site
Request the final external dimensions, operating and shipping mass, lifting points, center of gravity, permitted lifting method and any transport restraints. Survey road width, turning radius, bridge or gate limits, overhead clearance, crane standing area and unloading sequence. State who supplies the crane, spreader, rigging, temporary storage and weather protection, and who removes transport locks after placement.
Issue a foundation drawing with support locations, level tolerance, anchoring, drainage falls and cable or pipe penetrations. Check door swing, escape path, lighting, roof clearance and the service envelope around filters, pumps and pressure vessels. Membrane removal may require a straight pull distance beyond the container wall or door; verify it on the equipment layout instead of assuming the shipping footprint equals the maintenance footprint.
2. Freeze every hydraulic and utility connection
Create a nozzle schedule for raw-water feed, permeate, concentrate, flushing waste, floor drain, overflow, sampling and cleaning connections. Record size, material, rating, flange or thread, coordinates, elevation, normal and design flow, pressure and temperature. Assign upstream feed storage and pumping, downstream product storage, concentrate disposal and any air gap or backflow protection.
For electricity, state voltage, phases, frequency, earthing, available fault level, starting-current limit, incoming terminals and backup strategy. Allocate external cable, protection and communications. Confirm ventilation heat load, ambient limits, frost or solar protection, service water, instrument air and chemical storage. The EPA model separates racks and controls from several ancillary systems, which is why the proposal must state inclusions rather than relying on the word containerized.
3. Plan a controlled startup and acceptance test
Before energizing, verify pretreatment cleanliness, valve positions, chemical readiness, drain capacity, instrument calibration, rotation of motors and safe relief paths. DuPont guidance calls for low-pressure flushing to remove air, leak checks, gradual pressure increase and routing initial permeate and concentrate to an appropriate waste drain. The site must therefore provide the temporary and permanent connections needed for these steps.
Agree which party supplies feed water, chemicals, laboratory analysis, operators and disposal during commissioning. Record feed, permeate and concentrate flows, pressures, temperature, conductivity, recovery and water analyses against the approved design condition. Define the duration and acceptance point, treatment of off-spec water, punch-list ownership, training, spare parts and handover documents. The existing BK-38 catalog reference identifies a 6000 L/h product family, but final site duty and interfaces require the project-specific quotation and drawings.
Data to collect before comparing proposals
| Parameter / interface | Unit / format | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Transport envelope | Route, gates, turns and clearances | Verify against final shipping dimensions and mass. |
| Lifting plan | Points, center of gravity and crane | Assign rigging, unloading and restraint removal. |
| Foundation | Supports, level, anchors and drainage | Coordinate penetrations before concrete work. |
| Maintenance access | Doors, aisles and membrane pull space | Check service envelope, not only footprint. |
| Water nozzles | Feed, permeate, concentrate and drains | List coordinates, ratings and design conditions. |
| Electrical interface | Supply, earth, protection and backup | Define incoming terminals and external cable. |
| Environmental services | Ventilation, heat, frost and lighting | Use confirmed ambient and internal heat loads. |
| Chemicals / cleaning | Storage, dosing, CIP and waste | Allocate safety provisions and disposal. |
| Commissioning | Water, staff, tests and acceptance | Record design-condition baseline and handover. |
